High potential and gifted education

Some students learn faster and more easily than others. These students may shine in creativity, thinking, leadership or sport.

At our school, we recognise and nurture these strengths early. We support advanced learners with great lessons and activities to help them grow and thrive.

Our high potential and gifted education opportunities

At Peterborough School, our staff have embraced HPGE through a shared lens for recognising and nurturing potential in students with complex needs. We provide tailored opportunities for every student to develop their talents, both within and beyond the classroom.

In our classrooms

We strive to know our students to ensure that the full range of their abilities and needs is recognised.

We create inclusive environments to support all students by recognising, respecting and valuing diversity.

Technology is used to provide different ways of learning that help students develop their talent, as a part of supporting their overall learning needs.

Students are connected to positive role models in areas of interest to them.

Adjustments are provided to ensure high potential and gifted students with disability can participate in learning experiences on the same basis as students without disability.

Opportunities for leadership within the classroom.

Safe learning environments that encourage confidence, risk-taking, and perseverance.

Across our school

Partnerships with other SSPs allow us to share our expertise and classroom resources for the benefit of all students.

Opportunities for student voice and student advocacy, including the student representative council.

Recognition that every student is individual, and we provide flexible and diverse opportunities for students to explore and grow their strengths outside the classroom.

Participation in whole-school inclusion and wellbeing initiatives.

Participation in Southern Stars and the Illawarra Dance Festival, providing opportunities for students in the physical and social-emotional domains.

Teachers have time to engage in professional learning to build their experience and ensure they can assess and recognise potential in the classroom and school setting.

We foster positive relationships with families and communities to support all students to reach their potential.
